Your Mental Health: A Layman's Guide to the Psychiatrist's Bible
Published in Hardcover by DIANE Publishing Co (July, 1998)
Average review score:

User friendly , should be compulsory reading in collegeThis manual dispels the stigma about mental health and explains the different problems and disorders in a friendly and cheerful way. It is interesting to see that substance abuse (alcohol and drugs) can lead to a variety of psychiatric disorders that can equally be cured once abstinence occurs. I think this is a very relevant read for any college student who is subjected to rites of passage and other unhealthy pressure from peers to drink and take drugs excessively. The other topics discussed are exceptionally well handled and provide clear instructions and advice for those seeking to help themselves and others.
Perhaps the most thoughtful self-help book ever written. This is a valuable guide to psychiatric diagnosis and treatment that is immensely helpful for patients and their families. It also provides a fascinating view of human nature for the general reader. The authors illustrate how each of the mental disorders is an exaggeration of normal tendencies that have gotten out of hand. This helps a person suffering from a mental illness to feel less strange, alone, and helpless. An uplifting book that changed the way I see the world and the people in it, including myself.

57 Poems of & for Life
Published in Paperback by Aventine Press (June, 2003)
Average review score:

A Must HaveThis book is great! It is a must have! It has practically every life situation that one can think of. It provides guidance through the authors words, with scriptures to back it up. With so much [weak stuff] in books nowadays, this is quite a relief. It's so refreshing to read about things that you either can't say, or can't quite put into words. God really did his work through this author. This is a book to spend a cozy weekend reading, or one to read every night with the family while dinner digests. This book is truly a must have!

Abel's Outback: Explorations and Misadventures on Six Continents, 1990-2000
Published in Paperback by McClelland & Stewart (May, 2001)
Average review score:

Nobody writes like Allen Abel!Allen Abel is one of the world's great travel writers. An expatriate New Yorker who's lived in Toronto for 25 years, he's reported for major Canadian papers and the CBC network from over 100 countries. I've been a devoted fan of his ever since he first
emerged as a sports writer in the '70s and have followed him from
Beijing to Brooklyn, Nova Scotia to New Guinea, and Turkey to Timbuktu. Wherever Abel is, you can always count on the most obscure, off-beat, and unusual experiences- and he's funny as hell too. Nobody, but nobody, writes like Allen Abel! It's a crime that most Americans don't know him. Pick this up and see why he's worth it.

Above Lifes Turmoil
Published in Paperback by Sun Pub Co (July, 1993)
Average review score:

Allen never failsIf you cherish "As a Man Thinketh," then "Above Life's Turmoil" will not fail you. In this book, Allen disects the human condition and like a master physician, he offers solutions in his haunting and truthful style. This book is beautiful. As with Allen's other works, I re-visit the pages of this book often. Read it yourself and see why.

Access the Zone : A Mental Strategy to Maximize Your Golf Game for Women
Published in Audio Cassette by Subconscious Solutions, LLC (01 November, 1999)
Average review score:

An excellent strategy! Also applicable outside sportsI found the techniques used in these recordings to align mind and body very effective. Simply put, they work, and can be applied to other aspects of one's life than just the game of golf. I've shared them with golfing friends who have also reported similar reactions. Heartily recommended.

Active Directory, 2nd Edition
Published in Paperback by O'Reilly & Associates (01 April, 2003)
Average review score:

Outstanding addition to my AD LibraryI had the privilege of meeting Robbie Allen recently at an Active Directory Conference. His experience in designing and maintaining Active Directory at Cisco showed through both in his presentations and this fine new book from O'Reilly.
Features new to Windows 2003 are covered in this edition, and the tools and scripts mentioned and listed in the book have most or all been updated.
One of the problems with technical books is how fast they become obsolete, especially in the Windows NOS space. Robbie's book keeps pace with those changes and helps administrators plan for Windows 2003 and beyond.

Adopted by God: From Wayward Sinners to Cherished Children
Published in Paperback by P & R Press (November, 2001)
Average review score:

Neglected Theology Recovered! With the exception of Sinclair Ferguson's excellent, Children of the Living God, there are very few books that deal with the doctrine of adoption in the christian life. Adopted By God fills a great need for this generation of believers-to know the wonder and privilege that our Lord calls us His sons and daughters. Peterson makes it clear that God has taken those who are naturally His enemies because of their sin and rebellion, and through the finished work of Christ on the cross, has brought them into His family and made them His heirs.
By mixing careful Biblical study and analysis with personal stories of application, Robert A. Peterson has given us a book that is understandable by all, and yet worthy of a scholar's study. This is a truth that needs to be studied and meditated upon over and over again. Highly recommended!
